Today I was in work, The Royal Mail.
There is a conveyer belt that you put letters on, however at this conveyer belt is where all the mail from post boxes come from… So when people put rubbish in the post box, I have to sort it, when people put nice things in, I get them.
I got a bit of both today.
Firstly there was a stone, almost a small rock. Because Royal mail is a very boring place and a tedious job entertaining yourself is always first priority. I wanted to put the rock on the conveyer belt and see what happens when it went into the machine.
So… I did. I placed it on and it was bouncing everywhere. Everyone stopped and watched hits bounding rock, men jumped about trying to stop it going into the machines, I felt bad, my face went red (no one knew it was me but I felt shame)
I felt weird like when those spoilt brats on films do something that ruins everything… I can’t quite think of an example right now… But all this commotion because of me and a stone, the rock was getting stuck between a wooden frame and the conveyer belt, it was cutting some of the men’s fingers, they couldn’t get it, it was inevitable it was going to go through the machine… And it did, the machine stopped, they took it out and put it in the bin. That was almost fun.
Then I got an illustration by David Bailey, which was nice as id just been talking about him. It was just in the post box, who does that? Put a picture in the box. I mean I get crisp packets, receipts even ‘meat’ in there but never just pictures. So I took it home, which I shouldn’t have done, but it wasn’t for anyone. There was no way it could have been going to anyone.
That’s today
